How NextEra Energy is Making an Impact in the Greater Seacoast
NextEra Energy, one of the largest energy providers in the United States, has formed a strong partnership with Granite United Way to create a significant impact in New Hampshire's Greater Seacoast. NextEra's Seabrook Station and their employees are great example of how corporations can play a vital role in strengthening their local community and help to address the most pressing needs.
NextEra Energy partners with Granite United Way in several key ways.
Volunteerism
NextEra Energy fosters a strong culture of volunteerism. The company sponsors and sends teams to participate in Granite United Way's annual Day of Caring, where employees help support local nonprofits through projects that clean up beaches, parks, and summer camps.
Beyond this, NextEra and its employees engage in various volunteer opportunities throughout the year. During winter, they contribute to the Coats for Kids drive by donating gently used winter coats.
Financial Support
NextEra Energy encourages employee donations to Granite United Way through various fundraising events. Their annual golf tournament, where 100% of proceeds benefit Granite United Way, is always well attended. This year, NextEra raised $45,000 at the tournament to support those most in need in the Seacoast area.
Additionally, NextEra sponsors Granite United Way's youth-focused initiatives. These include K-Ready Kids, which provides backpacks filled with age-appropriate materials for children entering kindergarten, and the Community Baby Shower, supporting new and expectant parents facing economic challenges.
"Our partnership with Granite United Way goes beyond corporate social responsibility; it's about being an integral part of the community," says Dave Sluszka, Vice President at NextEra Energy, Inc. Seabrook Station. "As a local company, we're also a community member with a responsibility to give back."
Community Engagement
NextEra maintains a high level of engagement with Granite United Way and local community needs. Kyle Barry, one of their employees, serves on the Board of Directors and Community Impact Committee, ensuring NextEra Energy's contributions align strategically with community needs.
The impact of this partnership extends beyond immediate community benefits. By actively engaging with Granite United Way, NextEra Energy sets an example for other corporations, encouraging broader corporate involvement in community development.
“NextEra Energy and our employees find great value in these opportunities to give back,” says Sluzka. “It allows them to make a tangible difference in their communities while fostering stronger relationships with colleagues outside the workplace.”
