CARE Program in Vermont - GUW teams up with United Ways of VT
Granite United Way is collaborating with the United Ways of Vermont, 9-1-1 and VT211 to bring the CARE Program (Community Assistance Registry for Emergencies) to Windsor County, VT.
Natural disasters or human-caused events can become life-threatening situations for some. These events can be floods, ice storms, hurricanes, traffic accidents, power outages. If these events are prolonged they can become especially serious for the elderly, those with physical disabilities, and those with mental disabilities. If no one is available to help, or help arrives but is not prepared to handle a person’s specifics needs, tragedy can occur.
The CARE Program works to help Vermont residents who would require special assistance in an emergency to identify themselves to 911. In order to do this, Granite United Way will be taking the lead in Windsor County, Vt. This part of Vermont is within the Upper Valley region of Granite United Way. Windsor County will be the second county in Vermont to implement the CARE Program.
Granite United Way is embarking on a campaign to inform the public about the CARE Program and enable Windsor County residents to register. It will begin by contacting all towns in Windsor County, informing service providers that serve this population, utilizing media outlets and social networks, and reaching out to churches, Chambers of Commerce, and other organizations. Anyone requiring special assistance in emergency conditions will be encouraged to register.
Registration is available by downloading the attachment below. Information will be entered into a database linked to the E-911 system. Registration will require annual renewal. All records will be confidential, only to be shared with groups involved in helping to keep people safe in an emergency.
