Evergreen Gift Announced
Granite United Way, in partnership with Evergreen Institute for Wellness, is pleased to announce the recipients of the Evergreen Gift, a one-time grant opportunity to support innovative projects and programs aimed at promotion and engagement of community health and wellness initiatives in Carroll County, NH.
Evergreen Institute for Wellness was a 501(c)3 non-profit organization composed of a compassionate collection of committee practitioners, scientists, educators and volunteers dedicated to providing the inspiration, information, skills and support that foster individual and community health and well-being. A committee of community members was selected to help determine the recipients of the Evergreen Gift totally approximately $60,000. Selection was made from a very competitive field of 12 organizations. Award recipients are Global Awareness Local Action, also known as G.A.L.A., and White Mountain Community Health Center. Josh Arnold, G.A.L.A.’s Executive Director, looks forward to applying Evergreen’s funds to “…cultivate partnerships and develop mutually enhancing curriculum with integrated health practitioners” with an “understanding that health is not strictly an individual outcome, but rather arises from social cohesion, community ties, and mutual support.”
White Mountain Community Health Center (WMCHC) will be applying their funding to two programs they offer to the community. The first is their Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Program, a best practice approach to substance abuse treatment which the center has recently adopted. Specifically, WMCHC’s Executive Director, Patricia McMurray, is pleased that this funding will provide more thorough training for their providers in motivational interviewing to help their patients “better manage, decrease and prevent chronic illness, substance abuse and mental health issues through lifestyle changes.”
The other program, coordinated by Teen Clinic Coordinator Trish Jacobsen, is the Pathways to Success for Youth. Trish looks forward to building and expanding this program which helps teens develop “a powerful set of skills, concepts and strategies…while learning how to set goals, develop action plans and practice entrepreneurial skills that are critical to success in today’s changing world.”
The Evergreen Committee would like to thank all of the organizations who submitted grant proposals and their continued collaboration with other organizations to bring about the transformational change needed to ensure our communities have the opportunity for optimal health and wellness.
