Your Donations Made a Difference For Those Directly Impacted by COVID-19
Throughout our communities, COVID-19 has not only impacted the health of our residents, but it has also created financial hardships for thousands of households. Granite United Way’s COVID-19 Relief Fund was designed to help individuals and families get connected to resources to address the financial needs they couldn’t have anticipated just six months ago.
To date, Granite United Way’s work through our partner agencies has provided financial supports to over 3,200 individuals in nearly 1,000 households. This relief came in the form of gift cards to grocery stores, assistance paying utility bills, and supports to stay connected to critical mental health and substance misuse services through telehealth.
“The partnership between AHEAD and Granite United Way was such an instantaneous success,” said Matt Manning, Homeownership Center Director. “In such an unprecedented time, we were truly able to come together quickly to provide much-needed relief for families who found themselves in an economic situation that no one was prepared for.”
The stories shared through our partner agencies demonstrate the need and the impact of this fund:
A single father supporting a child with special academic needs was laid off and needed help paying rent and utilities until his unemployment support arrived. This support let him focus on his son’s academic needs via remote learning.
"Thank you, my guardian angel, for helping to support our family through this difficult time"
A single mother was waiting on the slow unemployment process, having lost income when her small salon closed. Her teenage son’s dietary needs put pressure on her food budget, and a small grocery gift card helped to fill the gap.
"Thank you so much for sending the gift cards to our family from the co-op, my family needed this extra help with food purchases, we are all laid off. We are forever grateful"
A family mourning the death of a grandmother to COVID-19, having difficulty paying funeral costs while meeting their basic needs, found financial relief through the fund, allowing them to grieve.
