Granite United Way is seeking a VISTA for its Northern / North Country region
The Economic Mobility VISTA serving at Granite United Way will be to address food insecurity, financial stability, federal benefits access, and community needs issues in Northern/North Country NH while identifying gaps in system access and volunteer capacity. Working with community partners to find solutions to those gaps and to create a workplan to stabilize and expand efforts in these regions.
• Tasks may include:
o Conduct formal and informal assessment including data gathering to understand population specific financial stability needs (ex. Seniors, families, individuals with disabilities, students) via surveys, interviews, meeting attendance and other methods.
o Identify and work with cross sector partners (employers, schools, nonprofit agencies) in the North Country/Northern NH to build capacity for volunteer opportunities related to basic needs.
o Provide training, education and build community awareness to reduce barriers and stigma related to benefits eligibility and application (SNAP, WIC, Free and Reduced lunch, Fuel Assistance, etc.)
o In partnership with GUW Area Leads reach out to area employers to increase awareness around issues of basic needs and how they might help.
The VISTA will also support programs, events, and activities that address community needs.
The benefits of serving a year as a VISTA with Granite United Way include:
• Post-service Education Award of $6345 or $1800 cash stipend
